Lotus Cup UK Speed Championship 2016 – Hethel (Round 7)

Wednesday 17th August 2016

For the second time in 2016 the Lotus Cup UK Speed Championship returned to the home of Lotus, the Hethel test track near Norwich. The weather was warm and windy, the track dry and clear.
First time sprinter Alex John joined the Production class in her Elise Cup 220, whilst previous Production competitors Jill Cheshire and Stuart Cheshire moved into the lesser populated SuperSport class.
It was an eventful day, most drivers remained on the track, with the few incidents being fairly significant.

Simon Foley made a brief return to sprinting, before meeting dramatically with the barrier on his first practice and having to be pulled out of the gravel and back to the paddock. Assessment on his S2 Elise found that the damage had not got as far as the chassis, but an issue with his gearbox/clutch meant that with all the gaffer tape in the world he’d not be able to return to the competition.
Having driven an exceptional first practice, Adam Ruck made a significant impact in his car on practice two, loosing grip on his way passed the pit wall and spinning into it, hitting the painted Lotus emblem bang on with the rear passenger quarter. He was able to continue his lap, and later returned (with much gaffer tape) to take 2nd place in Production class.

Production: 1st Xavier Brooke, 2nd Adam Ruck, 3rd Phil Stratton-Lake
Production Modified: 1st Martin Scarfe
Supersport: 1st Stuart Cheshire, 2nd Andy Hughes, 3rd Jill Cheshire
Supersport Modified: 1st Duncan Fraser, 2nd Nick Emery, Jason Weatherall

The next round of the LCUK Speed Championship will be at Curborough on 18th September.
