Lotus Cup UK Speed Championship 2016 – Blyton Park (Round 6)
Saturday 16th July 2016
Round 6 of the LCUK Speed Championship took place last weekend alongside the Westfield Sports Car Club Sprint at the newly refreshed Blyton Park circuit in Lincolnshire.
The sky was dull and grey as the first practice kicked off, and this soon turned to torrential rain, causing proceedings to be halted until the track was clear enough to drive.
Second practice got underway and cars took the lines through vast puddles creating waves at the end of the course.
In the afternoon the sun made a short appearance and by the second, and final, timed run, the track had dried off completely, allowing drivers to test their full potential through the course, albeit on cold tarmac.
Adam Ruck, who’d shown much promise at previous rounds, ended with no result due to two DNF’s, whilst other drivers, including Duncan Fraser, Tim Hardwicke and Martin Roberts also suffered from spins and not having all wheels on over the finish line.
Stephen Morrison wowed the crowds with his fast finish, still not beating his personal best, but easily put down to the cool conditions. The battle is still being closely fought with the top podium placing drivers all standing a strong chance of taking the championship title.
